We are a private pediatric occupational therapy practice serving children and young adults ages 0-21 and their families in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. We offer school-based and in-home therapy to promote occupational functioning within school and daily social routines. Helping children fulfill their roles as students while preparing them for inclusive and integrative settings in their community as well as  reaching future college and career goals.

Dynamic Kid (DK) is a limited liability company that has as its core the belief in the dignity and rights of all individuals and families, regardless of socioeconomic status, education level, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability status, age, or gender, to explore and develop their skills and interests to determine and develop their individual potential. Dynamic Kid uses best practices models from occupational therapy to render individualized services to children within the community in which it is situated. DK primarily serves school-aged children and their families, within Maryland and Washington, DC communities.

Traditional models of therapeutic practice have focused on the individual and his or her intrinsic limitations (often called “deficits”), however more recent models, particularly international (e.g., the biopsychosocial model), focus on asking questions about participation within the individual’s social environment. Asking questions about how an individual participates or is unable to participate in individual or culturally meaningful activities leads to more specific questions about how the physical and or social environment limits full participation. Besides considering extrinsic factors related to how an individual participates, it is also necessary to consider the physical limitations of the individual and whether any of those aspects can be remediated therapeutically or whether aspects of specific activities can be adapted for improved independence.

Dynamic Kid’s approach to families is to emphasize their active participation in the promotion of their intrinsic strengths and to develop their capacity for supporting each other. Families make informed decisions about their future and take action through engagement in meaningful activities.
