We are a private pediatric occupational therapy practice serving children and young adults ages 0-21 and their families in the Washington, DC metropolitan region. We offer school-based occupational therapy evaluations and consultations to address challenges related to fine and visual motor development, functional movement, play skills, sensory processing, and activities of daily living to promote occupational functioning within school and daily routines.

Dynamic Kid (DK) is a limited liability company that has as its core the belief in the dignity and rights of all individuals and families, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability status, age, or gender, to explore and develop their skills and interests to determine and develop their individual potential. Dynamic Kid uses best practices models from occupational therapy to render individualized evaluations, recommendations, and/or consultation to children. DK primarily serves school-aged children and their families, within Maryland and Washington, DC communities.

Traditional models of therapeutic practice have focused on the individual and his or her intrinsic limitations (often called “deficits”), however more recent models, particularly international models, focus on asking questions about participation within the individual’s social environment. Asking questions about how an individual participates or is unable to participate in individual or culturally meaningful activities leads to more specific questions about how the physical and or social environment limits full participation. Besides considering extrinsic factors related to how an individual participates, it is also necessary to consider the physical limitations of the individual and whether any of those aspects can be remediated therapeutically or whether aspects of specific activities can be adapted for improved independence.

An important aspect of Dynamic Kid’s approach to addressing children’s needs is to emphasize the importance of supportive adults and how they are able to facilitate changes in how activities are carried out to support success. This includes actively promoting the child’s intrinsic strengths.
